Items of Attention for Colonoscopy Procedure

Please pay careful attention to the following items before your health exams for the accurate checkup.

One Day before your procedure

Fasting

  • Avoid eating following foods 3 days before the test: seeded fruits (watermelon, melon, kiwi, grapes, strawberries, etc.) and sesame, black sesame seeds and wild rice.
  • Eat only soup or porridges without side dishes the day before the test.

How to take Picolight

  • On the day before the checkup at 4pm, you must begin a clear liquid diet. Please pour Picolight powder into 150ml of cold water.
  • Wait until the Picolight water becomes room temperature and drink it up.
  • In an hour your laxative will start. Afterwards, drink cold water continually to prevent from dehydration.
  • At 8pm, take another packet of Picolight. On the day of the checkup you take the last Picolight packet. You take total 3 packets for bowel preparation. This laxative will cause multiple bowel movements and diarrhea. Please let your doctor know if you experience nausea or vomiting. If you experience nausea or vomiting, you should stop taking the prep solution.

Guide for medications

One week before the test

  • Stop taking Aspirin and any anticoagulants. (Please consult your doctor)

The day before your procedure

  • Please do not get any insulin injection from the night before the test.

Procedure day

  • You should take prescribed medication such as antihypertensive or anticonvulsant drug, as directed, both on the preparation day and on the day of the procedure, if needed.
  • If you take antiplatelet drug and anticoagulants such as aspirin, Ticlopidine, Plavix, Warfarin (coumadin) due to cerebrovascular diseases and heart diseases (stent insertion), you must consult with your physician. You must not take medications stated above for 7 days prior to the procedure.
  • If you have cerebral thrombosis, heart diseases and lung diseases or if you had any surgery within three months, you must consult with your physician prior to the procedure.

Please let us know if you are patients of following diseases

  • glaucoma, prostatic hyperplasia
  • kidney disease
  • high blood pressure, diabetics, heart diseases (angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, arrhythmia)
  • blood dyscrasia
  • liver disease (hepatitis, hepatic cirrhosis)
  • respiratory disease (asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
  • allergic disease
  • stertorous respiration, sleep apnea syndorome
  • if you take aspirin, Wafarin (Coumadin), Ticlopidine or Plavix.
